Meet Otitis – he’s nine years old, deaf and earless, and he was living in a shelter until one woman changed his life forever.
Otitis had a home. Unfortunately, his former owners surrendered him to a shelter because they could not afford to treat the massive cysts growing in both his ears. Otitis eventually lost his hearing and had to have both his ears amputated. Now deaf, earless, and alone, he stayed at the shelter – hoping that someone would come and adopt him and give him a home. But alas, an old, earless cat is no match for younger, healthier, and cuter pets.
On the other hand, graduate student Molly Lichtenwalner was browsing at PetFinder, looking for a pet that could help her cope with anxiety.
“I was having severe anxiety as a result of a car accident… I decided it was time for me to adopt an animal to help with my anxiety, because nothing helped me more than snuggling some furry friends,” Molly told Love Meow.
She further said that cats had always been a part of her life and that “I told myself that when I was ready for a cat, I would only adopt an adult cat with special needs (the ones that are much harder to get adopted).”
So it was love at first sight when she saw Otitis, saying, “When Otitis popped up, I knew he was the one.”
Molly was the first person to ever submit an application for Otitis. And a day after the adoption, Otitis didn’t waste one second to show his new mom his love and appreciation for her – with lots and lots of snuggles.
The two were soon inseparable – with Otitis even guarding Molly even while she sleeps.
And he’s always there watching, ready for some snuggles.
On her part, Molly is also grateful for Otitis’ companionship, saying, “He is my Emotional Support Animal and always snuggles me at night and when I’m very stressed or having a panic attack.”
“He is sometimes the only thing that can calm me down at times. He’s the best thing I ever did and he definitely rescued me, I didn’t rescue him.”
Truly, Molly and Otitis are meant for each other, saving each other when they needed it the most.
